I’m Jewish, so I don’t consider the pope pertinent. Particularly, his beliefs on God. I was irked to read today, that Bennie religiously refers to God as he and him. While I’m not a fanatical feminist, I think that his chauvinism is showing.

When one refers to God as a masculine entity, it implies that the supreme ruler of the universe, including Kansas, is male. It gives no nod, or even a winsome wink, to the feminine. Of course, since the Catholic church is run by men, it’s a good old boys’ club. They’re sending an overt message to everyone, that women are secondary citizens.

Fortunately, other religions recognize the fierce, feminine force, like Buddhism and Hinduism. In the latter, the Godhead is represented by Shiva and Shakti. These spiritual symbols are simply illustrations of a mystical marriage. It’s  an important principle, though, that honors the male and female. Unfortunately, the church is still stuck in another century. An antiquated time, when women were barefoot, pregnant, and had no microwaves yet.

If Bennie would simply change he to it, it would make a world of difference. I’d also like to hear Goddess once in awhile, but that will never happen. Unless, you’re at the Burning Man bonfire, partying with wild Wiccans. Give it up, Bennie. Finally admit, that God is neither masculine nor feminine – but a beautiful blend of both. If nothing else, you’ll be seen as a mensch for daring to be different. You’d go down in herstory, as the pope that demanded divine equality.
